When They Saw What He Did Then…

Mike-P1020072-200It’s always intrigued me to read the passage in Acts 8:4 when Philip went down to Samaria. “Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said.”

Power is what people of the world are looking for today. They have problems with no answers. They’re sick. They’re hooked on alcohol and drugs. Their relationships are tearing them apart. Satan has turned their lives so upside down, they don’t know where to go or what to do to get things fixed.

They don’t care if you talk in tongues or dance in the aisles or sit up straight and sing out of a hymnal. But if you have the power to get their bodies healed and their lives straightened out, they’ll come to wherever you are. Not only that, they’ll listen to what you say.

That’s the kind of credibility God wants to establish. He wants the Church in our day to have the same reputation Jesus had when He was on the earth. He wants people to say about us what they said about those first-generation disciples, “If you go where they are, you can get healed.”

I heard Bill Johnson say, “The Gospel without power is not good news.” If all we have to offer people is religion, a new set of rules to live by or a new set of standards to live up to, without power which can heal their bodies and transform their lives, what good is that? We’ve merely bound them up with another set of “shoulds.” I “should” read my Bible, I “should” go to church, I “should” pray more.

Wouldn’t it be much more exciting to do the works that Jesus did? It’s fun to be spiritually on fire, going all-out for God. When you live like that, you never know what’s going to happen. You don’t know where you’ll wind up or who you’ll be ministering to or what amazing things the Spirit of God will be doing next.

Often people will wait around until they receive the gift of healing. If you want to receive the gifts of the Spirit, it won’t happen until you start ministering. As much as you might want to, you can’t wait around until you receive the gift of healing and then go lay hands on the sick. The power manifests as you give out. Once you step out to do the works of Jesus, the Spirit of God will back you up with His power.

I often say to people, “If you’re going to pray for the sick you must be willing to take a risk.” If you’re willing to take a risk and pray for the sick, you’re doing what God sent you to do. And, as people watch what you do, they will listen to what you have to say. Then they will begin to care about what you believe.

Awake California!
This month a city-wide event was held here in Bakersfield at the Rabobank Arena. It was an event to call the people of California to pray for a number of areas such as Family, Government, Church, Education, etc. The event was well attended and allowed a large number of us to come together from all streams of the church and worship and pray. We thank God for those that worked hard to bring this event together.

Drive-Thru Prayers
One of the young men I meet with on Saturday morning shared this story with me. He was going through the drive-thru to pick up his coffee when the Lord told him that the person at the window had an ear problem. When he pulled up he asked her if her ear was hurting. Her response was, “Yes how did you know that!” He told her how and prayed for her and drove away. Two days later he drove back through and the same girl was at the window. She said that the ear quit hurting immediately! How cool is that?

Thank you for your prayers and continued support of this ministry. We appreciate each of you.

Raised From The Dead!

Mike-P1020072-200Dear Friends,

One of my dear friends is Fr. Jim Curtin at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Lockport, IL. One of the families in his congregation was at the first healing conference I did at his church about 7-8 years ago. This is a strong family with five sons, all of whom I’ve met and interacted with at different times. I tell you this so you will know this story comes from a credible source and involves a family I have personally prayed with and interacted with on different occasions.

Connor, a sophomore in college was on a mission trip in Mozambique. He, along with some other young people, were praying with people in a village when one of the team yelled for him to come over to a hut where there was a dead 12-year-old boy. The grieving family told them the boy had been dead for five hours and was even wrapped up in graves clothes. Some of the villagers were trying to take him out but the father would not let them. Connor ran over there, went inside where the family was, dropped down on his knees with the ones that were already praying and began to pray. After a period of time, the boy started to move and he came back to life! Let me repeat that he was not merely unconscious but had been dead for 5 hours! I know this family and checked this out with Connor’s mom who confirmed that this happened.

WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND?

I recently heard a message on relationships by my friend David Williams. He pointed out that because of technology the term “friend” doesn’t have the same meaning that it used to have and how it is evolving mainly due to the technology that we didn’t have ten years ago. He said that we have the power to do friendship on our own terms and gave examples of how addicted we’ve become to needing immediate affirmation from our friends.

As I thought about this I realized that on my Facebook account I have hundreds of “friends”. With these friends, I can text, Twitter, Snapchat, Skype, Instagram, etc. I can even “unfriend” them anytime I choose. I realized that indeed some of these people that are my friends I know very little about and with many of them I’ve never sat down and had a face-to-face conversation. So for me, this brings up two questions. The first being, “What does friend mean to you?” But even more important for me is, “What does it mean to be a friend of God”?

Believe it or not, I actually had friends before Facebook that were truly my friends, not just my Facebook friends. During the late 1960’s I was living up in the San Francisco Bay area. This was during the height of the hippie movement. I remember vividly walking down Haight street late one evening when a young man approached and handed me a piece of paper titled, “What is a Friend”? After a brief glance, I stuffed it in my pocket and forgot about it. Many years later while rifling through some paperwork I came across it, picked it up and read it. It was one of those “Aha!” moments for me. The entire piece is quoted on page 86 in my book, “Before You Get Here.” This piece defines for me clearly what it means to be a friend. The first couple of lines read, “What does it mean to be a friend? I will tell you. It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself!” That sums it all up for me. With those, I count to truly be my friends I can be open knowing they will never reject me or judge me. To me that is friendship and that’s the kind of friendship I feel like I have with God. I have nothing to hide from Him. He knows everything there is to know about me and He still loves me and watches over me.

Flat Feet – No Problem!

mike-evans-187Dear Friends,

In June I attended the Ignite Healing Conference with speakers Judith MacNutt and Randy Clark. This is a yearly conference held by Christian Healing Ministries located in Jacksonville, Fl. This year’s conference was in Burlington, Vt.

During the ministry times I often receive Words of Knowledge for the various issues people are dealing with. They are both for physical problems and deep healing issues. One of the words I received was that some people attending were dealing with pain due to having flat feet. When you don’t have arches in your feet it can be uncomfortable. When I spoke this word out about 35 people stood and came forward for prayer. As they were standing in a line along the front I prayed for God to heal them.

One lady who was sitting up front watching suddenly screamed, “I just saw the Lord give that man arches in his feet!” He looked down at his feet with this rather puzzled look and was surprised to see that indeed he now had arches in his formerly flat feet. We then gathered the prayer teams around the rest and as we prayed others said they were being healed.

Both Randy and Judith are dynamic speakers. I appreciate their willingness to listen to the Lord and see what He is doing as they speak and minister. In addition to the number of physical healings we saw happening, there was significant time spent dealing with Inner Healing. Judith spoke to this on Friday afternoon and then we spent the rest of the afternoon praying for people.

Myself, Judith and two of her associates would say what we felt the Lord wanted to heal and as people stood we would pray for that specific issue. In addition to the obvious issues of unforgiveness we prayed specifically for many that had been sexually abused or were dealing with assorted addictions. Also, those that had been involved in the occult either unknowingly through playing some game or by participating in something that was clearly not of God.

It is not unusual for young people to participate in a game of some sort with their friends that is clearly occult in nature but one in which they do not realize what they are doing. It was evident that He wanted to heal both the physical and emotional things that people were dealing with during this conference.

The next Ignite Conference will be held June 21-24, 2017. I strongly urge you to attend this life changing event. The speakers with be Judith MacNutt and John & Carol Arnott. You can register at IGNITE 2017 Ignite Conference.

Someone Needs a Liver Transplant. During one of the breaks a lady came up to me and related the following. She said to me, “When you were at last years Ignite Conference one of the words you spoke was that someone needed a liver transplant. My friend was in the hospital dying and needed a liver transplant but they could not give her one because she was so sick that she would not survive the surgery. When I heard that word I knew it was for her. I went to the hospital and the Lord had healed her liver. Today she is walking around healthy and doing well!” Isn’t that great; she wasn’t even at the conference and God heard the prayer of her friend and healed her.

McFarland Hits A Home Run!

Mike-P1020072-200Dear Friends,

This last Tuesday I began a four-week series at Family Life Worship Center led by Pastor Terry Ruddell. The church is located in a farming community in the San Joaquin Valley near Bakersfield, CA.

It’s a healthy, growing Pentecostal church full of people with lots of experience in walking with the Holy Spirit coupled with excitement at what God is doing today. Pastor Terry invited me to come and teach from my book Learning To Do What Jesus Did. They are already “doin’ the stuff” but sometimes you need a little encouragement and a fresh perspective to help further equip and encourage you. That’s what I do!

The first night I taught on the various aspects of physical healing. These include how people perceive, understand and approach healing; the diversity of ways in which God heals, types of prayers for Physical healing, hindrances to healing and most importantly, how to wait and listen to what God is saying.

During this time I always like to model what I have just taught so I asked for a volunteer to come up for prayer. This first time I always want someone who is experiencing physical pain so that we can tell if there has been a change after we pray. A lady came up immediately that was dealing with significant pain in her knee that I believe she said had been there for several weeks. During prayer the pain immediately left! I then repeated this model again with someone else with the same results.

I then asked all those experiencing pain to come up and invited the remainder of those present to come and stand behind each person and ask the Holy Spirit how to pray. The reports back on what was revealed to them and those that were healed were dramatic. One gentleman came to me later and said,” I have been praying for people for 30 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. Inviting the Holy Spirit, then waiting and listening before you start to pray is all-new to me!

I’m looking forward to the next three weeks knowing that God will do so much with these people because they are open to learn and willing to step out and take the risks necessary to do what they feel God is calling them to do.

AN ADVENTURE IN VENTURA, CA! Last month I was invited to train and equip a group of Spanish speaking individuals at Summit Worship Center associated with the Summit Bible College satellite campus in Ventura, CA.

What a great time we had as I was able to teach on praying for Physical Healing, Inner Healing, the Role of Faith and Authority and of course How to Hear from God.

After the training was over I was asked to pray for all those there that wished to receive prayer. It was an opportunity to demonstrate that God wants to heal us. Many were immediately healed of physical pain and they were able to observe a simple model that often brings immediate results when you are praying for people.

It was obvious that the Holy Spirit was doing much more as we moved around the room because the power of his presence was strong. Some would began sobbing as God touched a broken area deep within. Others would laugh or smile as the Spirit moved upon them. There was such power present that some were so overcome that they “rested in the spirit.” It constantly amazes me how loving and gentle God deals with His children who are in pain. Just like a Father with His arms around you, lovingly holding you with your head resting upon His chest.

Included in this teaching was how to wait on God and hear Words of Knowledge before you even start to pray. That’s huge!

No More Hiding!

Mike-P1020072-200Dear Friends,

This last weekend I went to a Men’s Conference at Dominion Worship Center here in Bakersfield. The theme was “No More Hiding.” I realized as I was sitting there listening to the speakers that what they were teaching was applicable to both men and women. The teaching centered around Hiding from God and others. The focus was on why do we hide and how do we break out of that place?

Why Do People Hide? Four reasons…

1. FEAR – we are afraid that if people found out what we were really like they wouldn’t like us. If they knew what we struggled with or some of the thoughts we harbor they would be shocked or would not want to be around us. This is the result of believing a lie. A lie that says that the Father doesn’t love us, that we have to work to be approved, or that he only loves us if we live up to certain standards and expectations, etc., etc. One of the most effective ways to counter this lie is to understand who you are in Christ and that there is nothing you can do that will change His love for you!

2. SHAME – the enemy is very good at accusing us whenever we do anything wrong. In fact, we ourselves are good at doing things that allow him to cause us to feel shame. This is the shame that drives us to hide instead of running to Him asking for forgiveness. Shame is one of the enemy’s most effective tools in keeping us from being open and honest with God and people. I’m not saying that we should all go around airing our most secret sins to everyone. But we need to have someone in our lives that we can go to and talk about anything. Someone we can be completely honest and transparent with.

Of course when you think about it there is nothing hidden from God, but sometimes we need someone with skin on with whom we can bare our souls. Someone that will help us deal with the shame in a way that allows us to understand that we can go to our Father God and confess our sin. He will immediately take away the shame if we believe He has forgiven us and we let Him do it. Unfortunately, for some of us, it is difficult to grasp this kind of forgiveness and love so we stay hidden in our shame. Do not allow the enemy to keep you trapped there!

One of the biggest struggles men have in the church today is pornography. The number of men among Christian and non-Christian men that struggle with this is almost the same. There is a lot of shame associated with pornography and many fail at staying away from it again and again. But we must realize that we can also bring these failures to God and he will forgive and release us from the shame. He wants us to come be in a place of intimacy with Him. A place where we are naked, unencumbered, open, real and comfortable in our own skin. One of the quotes I heard this weekend was; “Anything apart from divine intimacy is distorted.”

3. INSECURITY – many of us have a difficult time believing our security is in Christ. We try to amass stuff, money, power, and things to feel secure. We put our trust in our job feeling that therein is our security. We invest in bonds and securities’ believing that therein lays our security. In reality, none of these are truly going to provide us with security. They can all be gone in a heartbeat. Understand that I am not saying these are all bad things and we should not do them. That’s nonsense. Obviously there are some wise things we need to do, but anything that is of this world is not where you should ultimately put your security. Our only true security must be in God alone!

4. DISAPPOINTMENT – perhaps in the past you have experienced deep disappointment. Maybe it was a personal tragedy and you blamed God. Or it could have been something someone did to you or said to you that hurt deeply and you don’t want to be disappointed again so you don’t trust. You don’t allow yourself to ever be placed in a position where you are not in total control.

God created us to dream, to create and utilize the gifts He has placed in us. Whether it is writing, painting, photography, or any other thing that allows you to get those creative juices flowing it is a gift from God and will grow as you allow yourself to create. God is calling us to dream again. To come out of the hiding place and into the “secret” place. It’s a place with Him that He alone can satisfy.

Because of who you are you can come to Him and give Him your fears, shame, insecurities and disappointments. He will cast them away from you and free you of these things that satan will use against you.

God is calling us out of hiding and into a place of encounter. A place where we can stand before Him in complete abandonment knowing that His love for us is so overwhelmingly complete that none of these things written above can keep us from His loving us.

$$$ If you can remember to keep us in you prayers regarding finances it would be much appreciated. April was a difficult month for us as our donations were almost $2,000 less than what we needed to pay our expenses. We hope to be able to catch up in May. Thank you for your prayers and your continual support of this ministry.

God bless,

Mike
